I've Got My Stripes

Hello Loves!
I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend.
My current nail design is inspired by a beautifully striped shirt that is so on time for the spring season.  The colors in the shirt remind me of a bowl of Starburst and Jolly Ranchers.   To create this look, I started off with a base coat/bonder to protect my nail from staining as well as to bond the layering nail colors to my nail.

 Colors Used:
L-R:  10 Prof. Lacquer "Moonlight", Klean Color "Blue Mania", L.A. Colors "Yellow", Sinful Colors "Courtney Orange", Klean Color "Green Grass", and Klean Color "Beach Blue"

Remember to let your nails dry before you add any layering colors to prevent bubbling.  Also, finish off the look with a top coat to seal in your work.

Work It Out Wednesday: Work It While You Watch It

Happy Day After Valentine's Day!

For those of you who have chosen to lose weight as your new year's resolution, how are you coming along with it?  Well, I have something that everyone can do even while watching television.  I know that we all wish that we could have more time in a day to get things done.  Well, if you are up for multitasking try working out while watching your favorite television program.

I have been able to burn at least 450 calories in about 45 to 50 minutes.  YES indeed.  You read it correctly.  Just the other day, I was watching a recorded version of one of my favorite hour long shows.  Before I pressed play, I put on a pair of tennis shoes and something comfortable that allowed me to move freely.  I then proceeded to press play and began doing jumping jacks.  I did that for a period of time, then I followed up with jogging in place, burpees, suicide moves, the Heisman move, lunges, etc all in no particular order.  I did this while watching my TV show.  I rested when it was time for me to fast forward through the commercials.  Once the show was over, I looked down at my heart rate monitor and discovered that I had burned over 450 calories.  Wowsa!!!  I did this all while watching TV.  You can even incorporate push ups, resistance bands, weights, and all of that good stuff.

This is a way for you to spice up your workouts.  Keep it exciting and you will not have any regrets!  There aren't any excuses people :-).  Try doing this and I am sure you will begin to reap the benefits of multitasking.

Invisalign: 6 Week Update

Hello Lovelies!
Guess what???  I chose Invisalign as a method to straighten and close the gaps in my teeth.  I think I can read your minds....How much does that cost?  Your teeth look fine so why do you want to mess with them?  Do they hurt?  How long do you have to wear them?  Can you eat with them? Etc, etc, etc.

The aligners are the name for the clear trays that you must wear at least 22 hours out of the day.  They have been pain free for me thus far.  Instead of pain, I usually experience tightness that I feel for the first 2 days after I don a new set of aligners.  By day 3, the tightness is usually gone away.  During my first week, it took me a little time to get used to something being in my mouth and on my teeth ALL day.  The only time that I remove them are when I wake up to brush and floss my teeth and when I eat.  I try to brush my teeth after each meal and snack before I put the aligners back on.  At times I just floss with the flossing sticks and rinse my mouth with a mouthwash.  I also rinse the aligners with cool water before I put them back on my teeth.   My arsenal of oral hygiene items includes flossing sticks and a small bottle of mouthwash that I keep in my my purse at all times.

I have "attachments" on my teeth.  I actually have 13 of them right now.  YES, 13!  They are on my side teeth; 6 on the right side and 7 on the left.  A couple of my teeth have 2 attachments on them.   Attachments are tooth colored bumps or buttons that are placed on your teeth to assist the aligners with rotating the teeth.  They are more noticeable when my trays are out.  I was VERY concerned about this because I am very self conscious of my teeth when something about them doesn't feel right.  But, after I put on the aligners I could only notice one of them.  I think that is great being that I can only notice 1 out of 13.  My orthodontist didn't tell me about this during my consultation.  I found out about them when I was told that my aligners were in and that I need to come in and get my attachments placed on my teeth.  I was like "What the"!!!  Then, they told me that I would have 13 of them.  I could have fallen onto the floor!  I was praying that they were not on my front teeth.

The day that my attachments were placed on my teeth, I found out that I am actually going to have 17 of them.  The remaining 4 will be placed on my teeth a little later during the process........ALL ACROSS MY TOP FRONT TEETH.  That is going to be interesting.

The attachments on my bottom teeth make removing the aligner difficult.  I was given a tool to help assist me with removing the aligner.  The best way that I found to remove the aligners was to start from the inner rear area of the aligner.  This goes for the top and bottom aligners.  I make sure that I am careful when removing the aligners because I don't want to break them or the attachments.

I have to change my trays/aligners every two weeks.  Each pair of aligners help to shift your teeth closer and closer to your final look.  I have a total of 43 aligners to complete on the upper teeth and 43 on the bottom teeth.  My total procedure time is 20 months.   I know it will be worth the wait!  All in all, my 6 week experience has been a success and a learning process.  I will be sure to keep you updated throughout this process.

Below are pictures that show my teeth before and after the attachments and aligners.  In a future post I will talk about the cost, do's and don'ts, as well as questions to ask during your consultation.

Yummy Chili Recipe

Hello Lovelies!
We've had a few nights in the 30s and 40s here in Texas and I am loving it!  Weather like this puts me in the mood for something warm and yummy.....Homemade Chili.  This is my quick recipe that you should try.  Tweak it any way that you like.

Ingredients:
1 lb Ground Turkey
2 16 oz Cans of Red Kidney Beans
1 16 oz Can of Stewed Tomatoes
1 8 oz can of tomato sauce
1 Medium Onion
1  Package of McCormick's Chili Seasoning
Garlic Salt
Pepper

Cut onion into chunks and brown until slightly translucent.

Season ground turkey with garlic salt and pepper or any seasoning of choice.

Once ground turkey has cooked, add 1/2 pkg of the chili seasoning and stir until ground meat is covered evenly.

Add kidney beans, tomatoes, and tomato sauce to the sauce pan with onions.   Pour remaining chili seasoning over the mixture and stir well.  Add ground turkey to mixture.

Bring entire mixture to a rolling boil then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Serve with a few sprinkles of cheese and crackers on the side.

Enjoy!

Feel free to share a recipe with us.  Also, if you try this chili recipe, let us know how it turned out for you!

"Mardi Gras in the Nude"

Hello Lovelies!
I want to share my latest nail color and design with you all.

To create this look, I applied a bonder base coat to clean nails.  I then applied two coats of  "Moon Light"  to each of my nails with the exception of the ring fingers.  I allowed the polish to dry in between each coat.  I then created a half moon starting from my cuticle to the middle of my ring fingers with Revlon's "Gold Coin" polish. Next, I applied "Green Grass" to half of the remaining unpolished portion of my nail and then applied "Purple" to the other half.  Once all three colors dried, I used "Black Sparkles" art deco brush to outline the areas where the 3 colored edges meet.  Once all of the polishes were completely dry, I applied a top coat to seal my work.

Colors from L to R: Moonlight (10 Professional Nail Lacquer), Purple (Klean Color Nail Lacquer), Green Grass (Klean Color Nail Lacquer), Black Sparkles (L.A. Colors Art Deco), and Gold Coin (Revlon)
Let me know what you think!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.  I purchased about 8 colors by "10 Professional Nail Lacquer" from CVS.  They were all 75% off!  This brand is awesome.  My fingernail colors never last more than 1.5 to 2 days without any chipping in sight.  With this brand, I get at least 3.5 to 4 good days  out of it before my nails show any wear.  This is a HUGE improvement in a polish for me.  Have you tried this brand?
