Mane Chic Audrey

It's Friday!!

According to Merriam Webster’s  definition, a mane is long and heavy hair on a person’s head. Personally, I don’t think it has to be long and heavy.  If you have hair growing from your head, then I consider this to be your mane.  Chic (pronounced sheek) is defined as smart elegance and sophistication.  With that being said,
Meet Mane Chic Audrey!!

How long have you been natural?
My last relaxer was when I was 17 (I'm 32.). I started wearing my hair in braided extentions through my twenties, which served as a sort of transition period for me (I had no idea what that meant at the time... I just liked the braids! lol). When I was approaching thirty, I decided to change up my image, and took the braids out in 2006. I've been rocking my hair out for the past 4 years.

What is your goal for your natural hair?
My goal is to have lush, healthy, hair. Cree Summer has been an idol and role model for me since I was 12 and in addition to her being awesome, I am in awe of her hair. I'm trying to get my "Cree on" by the time I'm 40! LOL

How does your natural hair make you feel about yourself?
Caring for my hair is probably one of the most loving acts of nurturing I give myself. It's become a bit of a ritual for me: washing my hair, oiling my scalp and braiding or twisting my curls... and when I look at my hair in the mirror, I see nothing but beauty that comes from nurturing and caring for myself. This must be what a gardener or a flower enthusiast must feel like when they look across a garden full of flowers that they've tended and cared for with love.

If you could go back and change anything about your natural hair journey, what would it be and why?
I've made a few mistakes along the way (the most prominent being a HORRIBLE self-dye job!) but I have no regrets and I wouldn't change a thing. Nature changes and adapts, and the changes I've made, the mistakes I've made have all been a part of the journey. I'm grateful for the wisdom and excited about what I will continue to discover along the way.

If you were to go on a hair product diet for 6 months (summer through fall) by not using more than 5 products on your hair, what products would be in your stash?
Healthy Hair Butter (Carol's Daughter), Shine & Define (Oyin Handmade), Aphogee's Shampoo for Damaged Hair, Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm (Qhemet
Biologics) and Luscious Locks Hair Mask (Karen's Body Beautiful).

What is your staple style? Give a quick tutorial on your staple style. If you have a picture your staple style include it as well.
I am a braid-out girl all the way. After washing & deep conditioning my hair (which I do in four sections), I loosen each section add my product to dripping wet hair and braid my hair, putting about 6-8 braids per section. I leave the braids in for 1-2 days and take it out.

What is one product that you have found to have more than one use and you used it on your hair? For example, you look at the ingredients of your favorite body lotion and decide that it can be used as a great moisturizer for your hair.
Oyin's Whipped Pudding!!! It's fantastic for dry skin and I've used it a few times for my braid outs and have loved the results (not to mention the smell is WONDERFUL!!!) It would be great for cold-weather hair regimens!!!

What tips/advice do you have to share about natural hair?
Love your hair, love the texture, the bounce, even the flaws. Seek inspiration and information (YouTube is your friend) when you feel frustrated. Don't smother your hair in product. Have fun with hair accessories: wear flowers in your hair when it's snowing outside, thrift some great scarves and vintage hair clips. And finally remember that your natural hair journey can be the most loving thing you can do for yourself.

If you had to choose one word to describe your mane, what would it be and why?
Adored. My hair is nourished and pampered by me and I've enjoyed watching it thrive under my care.

Thanks Audrey for showing us your Mane Chicness!! For more on Audrey check her out on her blog at Miss Moon's Musings "The rantings, ramblings & revelations of your average Brooklyn Geechee".

Have a wonderful weekend!!
