All Twisted Up!

Hello my darling readers! I pray that your Tuesday is off to a terrific start.
Recently, I have wanted to do something totally different with my hair. With me being in the protective styling mindset, I braided, twisted and tucked my hair. Yes! I did it all :0). Below is what I did to achieve the style.
  • Co-washed and detangle with Aussie Moist Conditioner
  • Added a moisturizer (one of my concoctions that I am testing)
  • Parted my hair into sections from front to back
  • Braided the two outside sections sideways and twisted the remainder of the hair after the braid was complete
  • Two strand twisted the middle section
  • Sealed the hair with a shea butter mixture as I went along
  • Let air dry overnight
  • Twisted the twists up into a French twist/roll and tucked the ends under

From here you can bun or create an updo to suit your taste.

I learned the basics of this style from Prettydimples01 and Beautifulbrwnbabydol on Youtube. They have great tutorials on styling hair.
I am going to try and keep this style for about a week.

Below is my Youtube video showcasing the style.

Enjoy and Until Next Time,

Are You Ever Going to Get a Perm Again?

I have been asked this question a few times in the past, but I was recently asked this again. Well, my answer to them was No; I don’t ever plan on getting a perm again. Getting a perm is not even on my mind. I have been completely natural for 3 ½ years, and I love the way my hair does its own thing. I love learning to care for my natural hair properly. It has been a journey I will never forget, and a journey that will continue. If I feel as though I want to wear my hair straight, then I will prep it and flat iron it. That’s the beauty of being natural. Our hair is very versatile in its natural state.

It is very important that you are happy with YOU. If you are happy having a perm, then rock your perm/relaxer with pride and self confidence! If you are happy with being natural, then rock your natural with pride and self confidence! Do what’s best for you, and be happy and confident with your decision.

Have you ever been asked this question? What was your response?

Are Your Tresses Stressing?

We all have heard how stress can affect our health. There are also studies that stress may be an underlying cause for hair loss. What have you been stressing about lately? Is it really worth it? Can you control the situation that you are stressing about? What could have been done to prevent the stress that you are experiencing? I have to be honest, I do stress about certain things but not as much as I have in the past. I am learning how to detoxify my mind and body of stress. I mean, I didn’t go to a doctor to get this remedy. I had to pray and really meditate on the Word of God. Then I began to evaluate the stress that was present in my life. You have to assess the situation. You can begin by asking the questions aforementioned.

You may be wondering why your hair isn’t acting right, feeling thin, not healthy, etc. You might be buying the latest products out there. You might even have your regime down to a tee. But what’s on the inside of you can be affecting your tresses. This includes the food you consume, hormones, and stress. We have to make sure that we keep our bodies as healthy as possible on the inside so that it will radiate outwardly. Stress will cause you to eat too much of the wrong items or not eat at all. You won’t get the nutrients you need in order for your hair follicles to produce healthy strands. Stress will also cause you develop habits that are harmful to your tresses such as constantly tugging or rubbing your hair. All in all, stress effects much more than your health. It affects your hair, the people around you, as well as your self esteem. Read more about stress and hormones affecting hair loss here.

Your scalp is crawling….WHAT?

Do you ever feel as though your scalp is crawling or has that crawling sensation only to find out that it is NOT lice, a spider or bug? So then you are like, well what could it possibly be? I have to admit that I have had this sensation before and not long ago. No, I don’t have lice. Yes, my scalp is clean and no, I am not experiencing hair loss. So what could that sensation possibly mean you might ask? Well, I did a little digging and found out that it could mean LOTs of things such as hair loss, effects from meds, anxiety, vitamin deficiency, migraine etc. I am not here to diagnose any cases but I just wanted to put it out there that if your scalp is crawling or if you have ever experienced this, you are not alone. I think mine might be an occasional growth spurt associated due to me taking MSM and Biotin. Since it doesn’t occur very often, I don’t worry about it. The cases where people experience anxiety or hair loss is when the crawling is usually accompanied by tingling, itching, burning and/or numbness.

I thought it would be interesting to see how many of you are feeling the same sensation. Make sure you keep your scalp clean. Many of us work out or sweat easily and salt buildup could be taking place. Also, make sure to co-wash/wash your hair at least once a week to rid your hair and scalp of any buildup that may be present.

Have You Ever...............?

Have you ever almost knocked someone out with your puff?
Well, yesterday at church I almost made that happen. This lady was behind me and she spoke to me. I turned around to speak to her and I thought my puff touched her but I didn’t know for sure. When I turned back around after talking to her for a brief moment, my puff hit her in the face. I know you all are saying she must have been really close…..and those were my thoughts as well. So she jokingly told me, “You are trying to knock me out with that puff of yours”. I turned around one last time to tell her that I was sorry, and guess what…..my puff hit her again! I couldn't do anything but laugh. She was laughing too and shaking her head.

This is when you know that your hair has grown; it reaches out and touches someone only to let them know that they are too close to its owner. Just thought I would share one of my puff moments.
