Indulge in YOU is a blog about indulging in yourself from the inside out. You only get one YOU so you have to love and take care of yourself. I will be talking about natural hair in all aspects, fitness, skin care, and more. Everything that I will post is either by experience or acknowledged quotes and readings from other sources. By no means am I a professional hair stylist, personal trainer or dermatologist. Enjoy yourself and free your mind!
At times I think I am, but I don’t think that it is to the point that it should be classified as OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). I find myself touching it and looking for knots quite often, but it’s not to the point that it disrupts my life. This is just a random thought that I was having today and I just wanted to poll my readers about it.
Are you obsessed with your hair? Is it to the point where you think it might be OCD? If you are interested in how being obsessed with your hair in such a way that it might be controlling your life, click this link to view the article.

Fall has rolled on in and so has my new hair regimen. Just as we change our wardrobes with the seasons, we need to follow suit with our precious tresses. With summer being a mere day in the past (It doesn’t really feel like it in Texas), it’s time to start tweaking our hair regimen. I am going to try some new mixes, styles, etc. This summer was the best summer for my hair every since I went natural. I saw in the past just how destructive poor hair care could be to my tresses. I learned this the hard way. In 2007 and 2008 I wore my hair out most of the time, which was fine, but I failed to MOISTURIZE. Well, I thought I was moisturizing but I really wasn’t. We live and we learn.
In 2009, I began to take better care of my hair and it has paid off! My hair is healthier, and I have managed to retain length. Be on the lookout for my comparison pics.
My Fall Regimen Incorporations Are Going to Include:
Castor and Coconut Oils
Scalp Massages with Spritzers and/or Essential Oil mixtures
Scalp Scrubs
More Creative Styles
Bentonite Clay Treatments (I slacked up on doing this after the first few times)
Hot Oil Treatments
Salvaging hairstyles after they have become “OLD”
Make sure you find out what products or concoctions are going to benefit your hair during the fall. Some of us will not be able to use the same products as we did during the summer; and some of us will. Everyone is different. Pay close attention to YOUR hair because it will surely tell you what it needs.
By the way, I have begun something new here at my blog. I will be incorporating GOODY BAG TREATS for my darling readers! You all are so sweet that you deserve a nice treat! I hope you enjoy it.

Ask God For What You Want! Bishop E. Earl Jenkins
"The reason you don't have what you want is...you don't ask God." James 4:2 TLB Imagine walking into a restaurant on a whim and asking if your order is ready. "When did you call it in?" the server asks. "Oh I didn't," you reply, "I just thought perhaps you'd have something with my name on it." Sound ridiculous? No more so than expecting God to answer requests you haven't made - or made in faith believing. James says, "The reason you don't have what you want is...you don't ask God." Does that mean He'll automatically give you everything you ask for? No. James adds, "Even when you do ask you don't get it because...you want only what will give you pleasure" (Jas 4:3 TLB). Your motives need to be in tune with what God knows is best for you. John says, "This is the confidence...we have in Him...if we ask anything...according to His will...He...hears" (1Jn 5:14 AMP).
Lamentations 3:25 says, "The Lord is good to those who wait...expectantly for Him" (AMP). Expectant prayer demonstrates confidence in God's goodness. Instead of fretting and taking matters into your own hands, when you say, "Lord, I'm going to trust you with this, regardless of the outcome," He'll honor your faith. Paul says, "Pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks" (Ph 4:6 NCV). Do you need a job? Help overcoming a problem? Salvation for your loved ones? A deeper walk with God? Physical or emotional healing?
Jesus said, "It gives your Father great happiness to give you the [benefits of his] Kingdom" (Lk 12:32 NLT). God wants to be good to you, so tell Him the "desires of your heart" (Ps 37:4 NKJV). And thank Him that the answer will come - in His time!

During this past week, I was making some coffee scrub and an idea popped into my mind. If you exfoliate then you can probably relate. Whenever you come across the perfect scrub for your face or body, you slather it on and get to rubbing. You may even set the ambiance by turning your bathroom into an at home spa. After all of the pampering is done and you feel all relaxed, you kick back and enjoy the rest of your day. Well, what about exfoliating your scalp…….with coffee grounds?
Did you know that coffee beans contain magnesium, potassium, niacin, and vitamin E? Coffee beans also act as an antioxidant and have antibacterial, exfoliating and stimulating properties. I was looking at the benefits of the coffee bean and came across a recipe for a scalp scrub. The recipe calls for sugar but I am going to try coffee. Note: You might want to try used coffee grounds as they are softer. You can even get used coffee grounds from your local coffee shop. That idea was taken from here.
I am going to try this out this weekend. My only fear is that I won’t be able to get all of the coffee grounds out of my coils with ease. Anyway, I think I am going to do it and hopefully I will master the coffee ground removal. Have you ever exfoliated your scalp?
Things You'll Need:
4 Tablespoons sugar – brown or granulated (your preference, though the latter holds up better)
Your favorite conditioner- enough to make a paste with sugar
If desired one of the following may be added: Jojoba oil: for dry scalp. Helps to re-balance sebum Tea Tree oil: For oily or dry scalp, dandruff psoriasis or dermatitis. Tea tree oil is an Antiseptic, Anti-bacterial, and Anti fungal. Chamomile: Chamomile has been clinically proven to have anti-inflammatory and repairing properties. Lavender oil: Balances the production of sebum from the oil glands making it beneficial for dry or oily skins for psoriasis, acne, eczema, seborrhea and spots OR you can also add your favorite scented oil- vanilla, jasmine etc. for a bit of an aromatherapy effect.
What you need to do:
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Be sure to mix well.
You can wethair, though it’s not necessary. You may want to shampoo first if hair is gunky with styling products
Apply mixture to scalp with fingers.Massage scalp in a circular motion for a few minutes.
Rinse mixture from hair, then shampoo and condition as usual. Recipe and Directions taken from here.
