Hair Grease and Ponytails

Have you ever wondered why your hair was so long, thick, and full of life as a child?  Even then, our parents used products that contained mineral oil.......Blue Magic Grease!  They also used rubberbands, shampoos with sulfates, brushes, etc.  So, what's the big deal about mineral oil, sulfates, etc you might ask?  Well, after a few years of being natural I asked myself the same question.  Take a look at my video below and feel free to chime in with your opinions.  Why do you think your hair thrived while being natural as a child?

  1. I think my hair grew longer as a child b/c of low manipulation and no heat. My mom used the green Queen Bergamot Grease & rubber bands FAITHFULLY but once my hair was done, it stayed that way for at least a week or two. And I was never allowed to wear my hair down (supposedly the few times I did I got an attitude and thought I was cute lol)until I was about 14 or 15 when I started to do my own hair...and got my first flat iron.

  2. Ok. My mom would shampoo, and plait myhair all over and it would stay for a month or two! She would allow me to roll it, put it in ponytails, or wear it out all the while it was in plaits! Sometimes I hated those plaits. Then every few months she would allow one of the teenagers around the way to corn roll it. That was nice. I believe that it was low manipulation for me. Even though she did all of the above that you mentioned, and I did style the plaits, overall it was still low manipulation.'

    Good topic, good observations!
