P90X Update!

P90x has done my body good thus far. I am currently on day 38 and I can tell the difference from when I began. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been well worth it. I have currently lost 3% of my body fat but my weight tends to fluctuate which is fine. The reason why I am saying that the fluctuation of my weight is fine is because the workout plan that I am on is constructing my body to lose body fat and gain muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. I am more focused on losing the body fat and inches rather than the weight. And no, I'm not trying to get all ripped and hard LOL! I just want to tone up. Once I get to day 60, I might be brave enough to post my progress pics…. I don’t know about that yet.

If you have started P90X or a different workout program, let me know how you are doing! Even if you are thinking about starting P90X, let me know if you have any questions and I will try to answer them from my experience with the program.

Who is Yara Shahidi?

I ran across this picture of young actress Yara Shahidi and her beautiful two strand twists. They are so pretty! This makes me want to twist mine. Her latest movie with Eddie Murphy, “Imagine That”, will be out this summer. You can view more of her pictures of her beautiful crown here.

Question for my Readers:

How long does it take you all to do your two strand twists?

What products do you all use to keep them neat?

Wal-Mart Recalls Women's Shoe

Wal-Mart is recalling about 200,000 pairs of George brand women's shoes. Heels on the shoes can easily detach, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

This recall involves women's sling-back, pointed-toe shoes sold under the George brand. The shoes were sold in three colors, black, grey and purple, and in sizes 5 to 11.

The shoes, made in China, were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from June 2008 through December 2008 for about $13.

Consumers should immediately stop wearing the shoes and return them to the nearest Wal-Mart for a full refund.

For additional information, contact Wal-Mart Stores at (800) 925-6278 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm's Web site at http://www.walmartstores.com/ for more information.

The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09191.html

To Everything There Is A Season!

April 8, 2009

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God. Have you ever given your all to a person, to a place (such as church) or to a thing but was overlooked when accolades were distributed? It seemed as though the late night meetings, last minute phone calls and encouraging words were overlooked or forgotten. Have you ever sacrificed everything you owned to assist someone who was in need, but when the tables turned no one was there to help you? You gave bountifully to organizations in need, but when you were in need people forgot about you. Have you ever felt cheated by friends and family? Because of your generous heart and free spirit, you often find yourself being walked over. Are you currently recovering from the neglect and abuse of relationships? You offered your all to a person, but (s)he left you broken. Has life caused you to feel bitter? Have you become furious with everyone?

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you. In the beginning you were the person everyone called on for encouragement. You enjoyed sharing a scripture or offering prayer to those in need. It brought you great joy when people asked for your advice regarding a personal matter. As time has gone on you no longer feel valuable. The people who once contacted you have forgotten your phone number. My friend, To Everything There Is A Season! There are times when you feel appreciated by everyone; but there are also times when you feel unappreciated. The Bible declares in Ecclesiastes 3:1 - To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: During the times, in your life, when you feel unvalued, you must never allow the enemy to pollute your mind and thoughts. Allow me to ask a question. When people were calling on you for assistance, were you doing it for the glory of God or for self-glorification? To Everything There Is A Season! There are times when God will use you for the assignment and there are times when He will use someone else.

My brother, my sister, just because your name is not being called does not mean you are ineffective or worthless. If you were doing it all for God’s glory, bitterness and resentment should not consume you. The Bible declares in Colossians 3:23 - And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; To Everything There Is A Season! Beloved, there’s a season of public display and there’s a season of quiet service. Beware of the enemy’s traps. The enemy will allow you to feel untouchable and irreplaceable. You will begin to think it cannot be done unless you do it. You will begin to compare your ministry with others. None of this brings glory to the Lord. The Bible declares in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. During the times you feel overlooked, learn how to encourage yourself (1 Samuel 30:6). Prayer for Today: Father, forgive me for thinking it was all about me. It was You who selected me for this great assignment. I give You all of the glory, honor and praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Meet Ms. Denise

Take a moment to meet Denise and see her awesome curls. Let's congratulate her as well because she just recently did the "Big Chop".

Enjoy!

What made you decide to go natural?
I actually first decided to try and stretch out the time between relaxers because I was tired of my scalp burning. But, during the transition stage I did a whole lot of research about black hair and eventually came to the conclusion that I did not need a relaxer to be beautiful because I ran into so many beautiful natural women. I also discovered natural products and decided that relaxers are too harsh and the chemicals are obviously bad for my scalp and possibly my health. For some reason I never looked at relaxers in this way even though they have rendered negative results so much in the past.

How long did you wear a relaxer?
I have been relaxed for at least 15 years. I got my first relaxer at around 13 years old.

How long was your transition?
I transitioned for 6 months and really in the beginning I was just stretching, but when I realized I could actually go a long time without a relaxer I knew I could do without them. I wore micro-sista-twists for 2 months and when I took them out I did my BC. If you get braids or twists during your transition make very sure they do not make them too tight and use very small amounts of hair, because they can pull your hair out. Especially the front.

What is your current hair regimen?
I just did my Big Chop Feb. 28, so I am still experimenting with techniques and styles. I am currently washing with Hydratherma Naturals Shampoo and Conditioner and Aubrey's Organics: Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner as my leave in. I put unrefined shea butter mixed with EVOO on my hair and either use paper bag strips to curl it up or small rollers. My hair so far doesn't really curl on its own yet the way I want it to so I have to curl it myself. I then pull the curls apart to make it full. I will wear this style all week just added water in the morning to wake it up and some Cantu Shea Butter with Olive Oil.

What is your favorite style to wear?
My favorite style so far is the brown paper bag curls pulled out with a headband. I am definitely in need of some more styles.
