Happy Fabulous Friday Everyone!
According to Merriam Webster’s definition, a mane is long and heavy hair on a person’s head. Me personally, I don’t think it has to be long and heavy. If you have hair growing from your head, then I consider this to be your mane. Chic (pronounced sheek) is defined as smart elegance and sophistication. With that being said,
Meet Mane Chic Angela!
How long have you been natural?
3 years 3 months
What is your goal for your natural hair?
My original goal was to grow a fro so big that people who sit behind me in the movie theatre would have to ask me to move. Once I experienced this I changed my goal to have healthy natural hair and do as many styles as I can possibly do.
How does your natural hair make you feel about yourself?
My natural hair has always added confidence to my persona. It makes me feel powerful (what ever that means) and proud to be embracing the God-given me.
If you could go back and change anything about your natural hair journey, what would it be and why?
Instead of doing a semi BC I would like to have shaved my hair like a ceasar cut simply because I believe I was bold enough to do so in college. I’m not so sure I will ever be bold enough to wear short hair again.
If you were to go on a hair product diet for 6 months (summer through fall) by not using more than 5 products on your hair, what products would be in your stash?
What’s funny is that I’m probably one of a select few with natural hair who is not a product junkie. I don’t even have 5 staple products. I would have to keep raw rosemary, a water spray bottle, whipped shea butter and 100% aloe vera gel.
What is your staple style? Give a quick tutorial on your staple style. If you have a picture your staple style include it as well.
My staple style is a afro puff. I put a shoestring loosely around my hair and then I pull it back until my puff is the size I want it.
I don’t have one of these.
What tips/advice do you have to share about natural hair?
Water is your friend. Drink as much of it as you can and put it on your hair as often as you can. If you do thus you will hardly complain about having dry hair.
If you had to choose one word to describe your mane, what would it be and why?
Powerful. Since going natural I have felt more powerful and in turn I feel people greet me with a certain level of respect , or maybe people started treating me with more respect which led to me feeling more powerful, Kinda like what came first, the chicken or the egg. But either way those two came hand in hand when I went natural.
You can find me on the web on my natural hairstylist website. This site is run by natural stylists. The blog consists of tips given by stylists to new and mature naturals and there is a directory of stylists.
