Wrapped and Banded

Hello Hunnie Bunnies!
I hope that you all are ready to enjoy your weekends!
We have one month down and 11 more to go in 2013.  Let's make this the best year of our lives yet.

I have recently fallen in love with the headbands/head wraps.  Today, I am sporting a black one that I picked up from Burlington Coat Factory.  It's a nice change to add to your hairstyles.  You know, I have had a few of these in the past but decided to wear them only one way.  When I attended the Nzuri Natural Hair Show in December, I was introduced to a new (at least new to me) way to wear these babies. I have also included a couple of pictures of the blue one that I have as well.  Let me know what you all think!

Friday's Hair Style

It's the WEEKEND BABY!!!

I hope that each of you had a wonderful and blessed week!  This morning my hair wasn't cooperating.  I made a mistake and feel asleep without re-twisting it.  Thank God for satin pillow cases!  I was trying to style it this way and that way and all kinds of ways.  Then, I just decided to flat twist a portion of hair across the front of my head and put the rest in my trusty banana clip with 4 twists.  I then tucked everything and went about my day.  Let me know what you think!

P.S.  Leave my part alone!  I know it isn't straight!  Ha!

Happy Terrific Tuesday!!
I didn’t get to wish you all a Happy Easter.  I hope that everyone had a lovely Easter Day!  The picture that you see is of what I wore to church on Sunday.  What you see in my hair is a headband that I fell in love with.  I purchased it when I went on a recent hair accessory and eye shadow haul.  I will be posting my new spring/summer hair accessories along with a tutorial of how to make your own headband. Yep, that’s right!  You can make your own as well :0).  When I bought them, I looked at it and thought “I can do this!”    I think I will be making a few if I can’t find a readymade color that I want.

Banana Clip Style Tutorial

Hello Everyone!  What a wonderful Wednesday we have been blessed to see!  Since I have been wearing my hair in twists, I have seen an improvement in the overall health of my hair.  I decided to continue my protective styling but switch up the style.  I will show you all how I achieved my 3 ball banana clip style.

Things you will need:
Clean hair (preferably stretched)
Banana Clip
Opened and Closed hair pins
Moisturizer
Brush

After you wash/condition your hair, make sure you stretch your hair.  I stretched my hair in order to be able to make my balls voluptuous and neat.  Stretching methods that you can use include banding, blow drying on cool or warm settings, or braiding/twisting in sections and letting your hair air dry.  I used the blow dry method.  Make sure you apply a moisturizer and sealant.  If you are using any type of heat, use a thermal protectant as well.

Once your hair is dry and stretched, apply the moisturizer and sealant  and proceed with brushing your hair up as if you were gathering it all together for a pony tail.  Once it is gathered, don the banana clip.

Now, separate your hair into three sections.  I began with the top section and rolled and tucked my hair under with a closed hair pin and secured any fly aways with the open hair pins.  I did this for the remaining two sections.

At night, I removed the banana clip and hair pins.  I also moisturized, sealed and twisted my hair in those three sections to keep it stretched.  In the morning, I repeated the process for styling again.

I really like this style because it shows another form of versatility for our natural hair.  Be creative and go for it!

My Friday Hairdo

Today I was fiddling around with the camera on my phone for a quick moment and I decided to snap a few pics of my Friday hairstyle. I decided to show you all one of my many flower hair accessories. I wore a bun and stuck a red flower in it.

How I achieved the style:

I used white rain energizing citrus conditioner for my co wash last night, Elasta Qp H2 leave-in moisturizer, and let my hair air dry.

I then applied Karen’s Body Beautiful Hair Milk and put my hair in flat twists for the night.

This morning, I unraveled the flat twist, applied my Nourishing Hair Butter, and pulled it all back into a side pony tail.

I then tucked the ends under and pinned them with a hair pin.

Afterwards, I stuck my flower in my hair and tied my edges down with my satin scarf. I left it on during my commute to work.

This is fairly easy to and it’s not time consuming.

Two Strand Twists Meets Flexi-Rods

This weekend I tried something new. I did two strand twists on my hair and set them on Flexi-Rods and Voila!!

I actually like this style on me. My hair is very soft and mainly frizz free. It is also very shiny!! Today is day 2 of this style and it is still holding up. I used 54 Flexi-Rods and 2 regular organge rods (I ran out of Flexi's).

What's funny is that shrinkage still found its way into my hairstyle (I know..It's never going away). I did a length check and saw that my hair is Arm Pit Length fully stretched in the back (shown in the 3rd pic). But once I let that curl go, it BOING'd back into place!

What I did to acheive this style:
  • Co-washed and detangled with Herbal Essence Totally Twisted
  • Deep Conditioned for 45 min with Pantene Pro-V Nourishing Moisture Replenishing Mask
  • Sectioned off hair with 2 cross sections(Front to back and Ear to Ear) that gave me 4 sections to work with (Braid the sections that you are not working with)
  • Applied ABBA Pure Gentle Leave In and DevaCare One Conditioner
  • Twisted hair and sealed entire twist with Knuckle Butter (My Own Product)
  • Spiraled twists around Blue 7" Flexi-Rod (diameter 9/16")
  • Let air dry over night
  • Removed Flexi-Rods and carefully pulled twist apart ~ while pulling apart I had shea butter on my finger tips and palms
  • Pinned up the left side of curls with 2 hair pins

Have you ever used the Flexi-Rods? Please share your experiences.

Until Next Time,

What is the one hair product and accessory/tool you can’t go without?

We all have at least one product that we have to have in order to keep our strands of hair in tact. I have to have a conditioner, preferably Suave Humectant Conditioner. I say this because I can co-wash my hair with it, I can use it as a leave-in if I need to, I can style my hair with it and I can do a deep conditioning treatment with it. A conditioner can be versatile if you need it to be.

The accessory/tool that I have to have is a wide toothed comb. I use this in conjunction with my conditioner to detangle my hair. I love it! If I didn’t have it my fingers are always an option.

Share your hair product and accessory/tool with us! Maybe we have something in common!
