Spring Cleaning!

Hello Lovelies!

Spring is here and I am excited!  Why, you might ask.....well it is a refreshing time of year.  During this time of year "Spring" cleaning takes place.  Well, it doesn't have to be spring in order for you to take part in cleaning, but this is giving me the opportunity to bring this action to your attention.

It's time to cleanse/clean yourself, your house, your car, your LIFE!  Yes! It is time to do some much needed cleansing and cleaning.  Once you clean out the junk, the clutter, the unnecessary items, and cleanse your mind you will have space to receive newness.

Why you would want to pile the newness on old things; junk?  Prepare your storage, your closet, your mind and your life for the new things that are on the horizon.  Clean up.  Cleanse your spirit and your mind.  You might wonder, well how do I go about doing that?  Well you have to change the way you think.  You have to change the way you see yourself; your life.  I have given you examples of things that you can clean or cleanse, but for the purpose of this post I want to talk about getting your spirit/mind cleansed.

What is it that you really want out of this life that you are only going to live ONCE?  Before you answer that, you need to really think about it.  Search deep within.  What hurt are you holding on to?  What is that one thing that is lingering around that is keeping your from moving to the next level?  How does it make you feel?  What is your daily language like when you get into that HURTFUL, UNCOMFORTABLE, UNBEARABLE place?

See, you have to get to the root of the problem.  Many people stay on the surface and down play what is really bothering them.  Now, do you think that you deserve what it is that you want?  Let me tell you that you do deserve to be HAPPY, DEBT FREE, SAVED, FULFILLED, JOYFUL, PAID IN FULL, SINGLE, MARRIED, etc.  You deserve to get what you want out of life.  It all starts with you mindset.  You have to change the way that you think because THOUGHTS ARE THINGS.  They are.  You become what you think about.

I challenge you to become aware of your thoughts and your words.  This is very important.  Anytime a negative thought arises, replace it with a positive one.  It can be for the simplest of thoughts.  Think before you speak.

So let's get busy with cleansing our minds of destructive and negative thoughts.

This week I would like for you to take notes on your thoughts that are negative, destructive, hurtful, harmful......  I urge you to do this and at the end of the week you will be surprised at what goes through your mind.  This is going to help you with your mind awareness.  Fix it by replacing those thought with new and positive thoughts.

You can do it.  Believe in yourself!

Until Next Time,

Eviction Notice is Served

Happy Monday Lovelies!
I come to you today bearing inspirational food for thought.  Enjoy!

The greatness about an eviction is that you are forced to see the "New" you.  You are forced to take all of your belongings and either get rid of them (baggage) or take them with you.  Eviction causes you to slim down i.e. get rid of things, people, problems etc.  Eviction may as well have the adverse effects....stress, depression, unhealthy weight gain/loss, self-esteem issues and more.  It is up to you to navigate to a place of HAPPINESS before, during, and after an eviction.

What or who are you being evicted from?  You don't have to look far or take a long time to figure why or what is the cause of your eviction.  Allow yourself to be evicted from toxic relationships.  Allow yourself to be evicted from debt.  Allow yourself to be evicted from past hurts. Allow yourself to be evicted from wrong doings.  Allow yourself to be evicted from YOU.  Wow!  Yes, you.  Your mind can hold your future hostage. You tell yourself "I can't" when in essence you can do ALL things through Christ that strengthens you.

Control your thoughts.  You become what you think about.  Take self-inventory and monitor your thoughts today.  I challenge you to replace every negative thought with a positive one.  Even if it is about your self, your job, your spouse, your parents, your care whatever it may be.  Replace that though with a positive one and mean it.

You do know that you have the power to do that, don't you?  SPEAK life.  SPEAK positively. SPEAK the things you want into existence and BELIEVE that those things WILL manifest. Put ACTIONS behind your SPEAKING.  Act as if you already have what you have spoken.  FEEL it in your soul.  If you want more self-love, begin by taking care of yourself. Get a checkup. Eat healthier.  Do nice things for yourself. Care about your appearance.  Your body is a temple.  It is sacred.

Feed you mind and spirit by meditating, listening to motivators on topics that interest you, reading the Bible and inspirational books and articles.

Let go of the past and move ahead into your future.  Faith without WORKS is dead.  SPEAK it. BELIEVE it. WORK it.

Until Next Time,

Overcoming Natural Hair Setbacks

Good Afternoon Loves!

Have you ever had setbacks while being on your natural hair journey?  The important thing to remember is that setbacks can be overcome.  You have to identify the setback and work to restructure your mind about the way you view the setback.  This is very important because your mind can hinder you from overcoming whatever the setback might be.  This applies not only to your hair, but to every facet of your life.

I've have faced setbacks with my hair; dryness, breakage, no length retention and comparison.  There is no set time limit for rebounding from your setback.

Once I combated the dryness, the breakage was taken care of as well as the length retention.  They all play a role in working together to get the maximum potential from your hair. To combat dryness I had to moisturize my hair more than once or twice a week.  I had to amp it up to at least 4 days out of the week.  Some of those days I moisturize in the morning and at night.  Moisturizing can be as simple as spritzing your hair with water.  You can also use water based creams to do the job as well.  For me, I use a water based cream as well as pure water.  I usually alternate between the two.  Make sure you seal in the moisture with an oil based product.  I have become a lover of Grape seed oil and Dax pomade in the form of grease.  Yep.  I use grease too.  I don't slather it on.  It only takes a pea sized amount to do the trick.  I have tried using olive oil, but it is too heavy for my hair.

When your hair is moisturized, breakage becomes very minimal.  Breakage can be overcome by being gentle with your hair.  Treat it like you are handling a piece of silk.  Also, protect your hair from snags, be it your nails, jewelry, clothing etc.  Believe it or not, jagged nails can slice through strands of your hair.  Necklaces and earrings can also become grounds for getting your strands all caught up in the metal.  If your hair is constantly rubbing against a fabric such as wool, it can be detrimental to your ends.  Whenever you choose to wear fabrics that have the potential to snag your hair, minimize wearing your hair in a style that can come in contact the fabric at that time.    Make sure that the tools you use on your hair are in supreme working condition.  Broken teeth in combs and worn bristles in brushes are a set up for damaging your hair.

Once all of the aforementioned are taken care of, length retention can take place.  Keeping your ends in tip top shape will aid in length retention as well.  Cut away those split ends.  Natural hair needs trimming as well.  The frequency of your trims depends on you.  Monitor your ends.  If you see and overage of split ends, then it is time for a trim.

Lastly, do not compare your hair to anyone else's.  This is easier said than done.  Accept YOUR hair.  No two heads of hair are the same.  I am so guilty of this.  I used to think, she has be natural for a shorter period of time that me and her hair is longer, fuller, blah blah blah.  Stop doing that.  Work with what YOU have.  Make it reach its maximum potential.  Care for it and treat it with gentleness and love.

Please share your setbacks and how you overcame them or how you are overcoming them.

Until Next Time,

The Simple Indulgences of Life

Good Afternoon Darlings!

Too often we go about life and wish we could travel to Puerto Rico for a week, live in Miami near the beach, be on the airplane we see flying in the sky to a place we don't know, etc.   We have to take the time to be thankful and enjoy the simple indulgences of life.  Don't forget to indulge in the cool and brisk morning air while walking from the car to the office building; the smell of freshly brewed coffee early in the morning; the thirst quenching taste of cool water after a walk outside in the sweltering heat; the taps of rain drops on your window pane while you are lying in bed on a Saturday morning with nothing to do for the next hour; the look of freshly painted nails that are shining brighter than the sun; the smell of a shirt fresh from the dryer; the smell of BBQ from someone's house or balcony down the street; the ring of your phone that lets you know that someone is thinking about you at that moment.  I could go on and on but you get the picture.  Take time to indulge in those simple moments that we sometimes take for granted.

Today's word from Joel and Victoria: Speak to Your Mountains

Speak to Your Mountains

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“And Jesus answered them, Truly I say to you, if you have faith (a firm relying trust) and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will be done”
(Matthew 21:21, AMP)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

We’ve all had seasons when the challenges of life feel overwhelming. During those times, it’s easy to be tempted to talk about how bad things are. Maybe you received a bad medical report, or maybe you’re facing a financial obstacle. But the more you talk about something, the bigger it becomes in your mind. Instead, you’ve got to dig your heels in and say, “No, I am not going to give life to that defeat. I am not going to speak sickness over myself. I’m not going to speak lack. I’m not going to speak fear. I’m choosing a different report. I believe the report of the Lord which says I am blessed. I am favored. I am prosperous. I am healthy. I am whole. I’m a victor, not a victim.”
Remember, even if you don’t see how things could ever work out, God does. You’ve got to speak to those mountains in your life and declare favor over those situations. Instead of talking to God about how big your problems are, talk to your problems about how big your God is! As you speak to your mountains, they will be moved, and you will move forward into the victory God has prepared for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word which is life to my spirit. I receive Your strength today and choose to speak to the mountains so I can move forward in the victory You have in store for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Your Words are Powerful

Your words are powerful beyond measure.  Your thoughts are your words' vision.  Be mindful of what you say and think.  If you REALLY believe what you speak, it has no choice but to come to pass.  There can't be any doubt whatsoever in the back of your mind because doubt hinders the outcome.  I truly believe that God gives us the power to create things that can easily blow your mind or other's minds.  Have you ever really digested the Bible Verse Ephesians 3:20? Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

If you, your family member, or a friend is facing an illness please believe that healing can take place.  You have to believe WITHOUT a grain of doubt.  The person that is ill has to believe WITHOUT a grain of doubt as well, no matter how hard it might seem.  Speak the healing and visualize that person walking, talking, eating on their own, or doing what it is that they want to do.

You know, God is a repeat performer.  By this I mean, think of something that He has done for you in the past.  Now think about what you are facing at this moment.  He brought you out of a dark place before.  He brought your dreams to pass before.  He provided for you when you thought there was no more time left for it to be done.  If He did it for you once before, He is well able to do it again.

Begin to declare what you want.  Don't say "I wish I could go back to school".  Instead say "I am going back to school in the fall" or whenever you want it to come to pass.  The key here is that you MUST believe that it can happen.  You MUST declare it.  You MUST prepare for what is about to happen.  Go on and buy your backpack.  Go on and research the internet about what it is that you will be studying.  Make yourself a class schedule and post it up in places where you can see it and be reminded of what it is that you will accomplish.

YOUR words are powerful when they align with your thoughts and emotions.  You are responsible for your own happiness.  Sometimes you have to take time to experience the quietness.  Get into a place where you will not be bothered (your closet, your bathroom, your garage, etc.)  Begin to focus on what it is that you want out of life.  Picture yourself being in that position or place.  Keep that vision at the forefront of your mind and claim it.

Please take the time and focus on yourself every now and then.  This doesn't mean that you are being selfish, but you have to be fulfilled.  You want to feel good.  There's is nothing like feeling GOOD.

Have you ever just had a moment where you were sooo happy and you didn't know why?  Things could be chaotic all around you but you still feel good.  That is the good feeling that I am talking about.  There is nothing like it.

Create your next hour.  Create your tomorrow.  Create your future.  You have the power to do so.  God gave it to each and every one of us.

Be blessed,

Indulgenceiskey

Today's Word with Joel and Victoria: Power in Perspective

 Power in Perspective

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth”
(Psalm 34:1, NKJV)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

It’s easy to get focused on what’s wrong in life, what we don’t have, and how big our obstacles are. If we’re not careful, we’ll lose sight of all the good things God has done. We’ll take for granted our family, friends, health and the opportunities God has blessed us with. We’ll get so busy and stressed out that we won’t appreciate the gift of today. What’s happened? Our perspective has gotten off.
Perspective is all about how we see a situation. There’s power in your perspective because you will draw into your life what you constantly meditate on. Business may be slow. The economy may be down. The wrong perspective is, “I’ll never make it. It’s just too much.” The right perspective is, “God is supplying all of my needs. He said He would prosper me even in a desert.”
Today, I encourage you to evaluate your perspective. Choose to lift your eyes to God the Father no matter what is happening in your circumstances. Remember, as you set your perspective in the right direction, your life will follow. When you keep an attitude of faith and expectancy, you open the door for His blessing in every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, I choose to bless You at all times. I declare that You are faithful! I lift my eyes to You because You are the source of my help, strength and joy forevermore. Thank You for leading and guiding me for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Stir Up Your Dreams

I hope that each of you had a wonderful weekend.  Here is some food for your soul.  Enjoy!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you...”
(2 Timothy 1:6, NKJ)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Do you need some freshness in your life today? You may simply need to stir up what God has placed on the inside of you. Stir up those gifts, stir up those dreams, stir up those talents inside. Start stretching yourself. You were created to be a dreamer and to pursue the desires God has placed in your heart.
The Scripture tells us that without vision, people perish. If you don’t have a dream or vision for your life, you’re not really going to reach your fullest potential. Maybe at one time you had a dream, but you went through some disappointments or setbacks. Things didn’t turn out the way you planned. But here’s a key: when one dream dies, dream another dream. Just because it didn’t work out the way you had it planned doesn’t mean that God doesn’t have another plan. You cannot allow one disappointment or even a series of disappointments to convince you that your dream is over. It’s time to dig your heals in and hold on to the promises in your heart. Stir up those God-given dreams today and watch Him pour out His favor and blessing upon you and fulfill every desire in your heart!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father in heaven, I come humbly to You. I give You my past, my disappointments, my brokenness. Fill me with Your hope and expectation and give me the dreams and desires that You have in store for my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
— Joel & Victoria Osteen

Today's Word with Joel & Victoria

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"No one can know a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit, and no one can know God's thoughts except God's own Spirit"  (Ephesians 3:20, NIV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
When was the last time you imagined God doing something supernatural in your life? Is there a relationship that needs restoration? Is there a business you've wanted to start, but you are holding back? If there were no limitations on your life, if anything were possible, what would you be willing to imagine?

Friend, the only limits on your life are the limits you have in your mind, and God wants to do exceedingly more than you can even imagine today! He wants to overwhelm you with His goodness and amaze you with His faithfulness. But in order for Him to exceed what you've imagined, you have to at least be imagining something! Why don't you take a step of faith today and let your imagination come to life? Begin to see in your mind all the possibilities for your future. Meditate on the amazing things God has done throughout history. Let that seed of faith take root in your heart. Hold on to His promises because He is faithful. He is able to exceed your expectations and go beyond what you can imagine today!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father God, thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness in my life. Today I submit my imagination to You. Help me to see what You see for my future. Help me to take the limits off my thinking so I can receive everything You have in store for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

- Joel & Victoria Osteen

Just a Thought

Happy Hump Day!  I just wanted to share a thought that I had with you all.  Enjoy and feel free to weigh in.

I feel empty. I feel as though I have a hole in my heart. I feel as though I am sick with nausea. Why do we feel this way when relationships end or when there is a problem in the relationship? Is it because we don’t know what else to do? Is it because we don’t feel that it can be saved? Is it because we are afraid of what’s going to happen next? Well, to me I feel as though we have put too much of ourselves into the relationship instead of letting God do the work or instead of letting Him lead the way. True enough, a relationship is supposed to be meaningful, trustworthy, and special and so on, but they should not make us put our health and sanity at risk. I see it all too often, and to be honest I have been in that position a few times myself. Why can’t we be that way wholeheartedly about God? Why don’t we feel sick when we have wronged Him by not following His word? We give too much of ourselves in these relationships where the other party is barely reciprocating the effort. This pertains to any relationship be it with your significant other, your best friend, your church member, coworkers, and even your boss. .

I wonder what God would think if we treated him like we treated our “lovely” relationships. We go out of our way to please, depending on who it is. Let’s keep it real. We make sure our outer appearance is in order from head to toe. We make an effort to watch or record our special TV programs at a certain time. We make sure we workout and eat right. Why can’t we schedule in our reading time and prayer time like we do those other things? And I am not talking about 10 minutes either. If God did us the way we did Him then we would be in a world of trouble. I am guilty of all of this and that is why I can say what I am saying. I am slowly but surely coming around to making my reading and prayer time more a part of my everyday life. To be honest, all of us don’t read the word of God every day. We have to be real with ourselves and not worry about what others think as we make God a priority. He didn’t care what other people thought when He sent His only son to die for us. He didn’t care what other people thought when he blessed us in front of our enemies. He didn’t care what others thought when he saved us from dying in that accident, or dying when we were doing things that should not have been doing. It is time that we put some thought into how God feels when we give more of ourselves to things more than we give ourselves to Him.

Today's Word with Joel and Victoria

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share an encouraging word from Joel and Victoria with you all. Have a wonderful day!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
…the Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like the bursting out of great waters…"
(2 Samuel 5:20, AMP)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
God wants to give you a breakthrough—a sudden burst of His favor; an explosion of His goodness. He wants to release His power in such a way that it overwhelms you and drives out your enemies!

Maybe you've been praying about a relationship for years, and suddenly, things get into place. That's a breakthrough. Or you were trying to get a certain job. They said there were no openings; but suddenly, they call you back and you get the job. That's another breakthrough. Perhaps you've struggled with an addiction for a long time, but then something happens and it's not a struggle anymore. Those are all breakthroughs.

No matter what you've been facing, no matter how impossible things look, know this: the God of the breakthrough wants to visit your house. Get ready! Look for His favor and goodness. Remember, God rewards the people who seek after Him. So keep expecting, keep believing because the God of the breakthrough is ready to overwhelm you with His goodness today!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father in heaven, today I am expecting Your goodness. I am looking for Your favor. I'm trusting that You, the God of the breakthrough, are working mightily on my behalf. Help me to live a life pleasing to You as I wait for Your hand to move mightily in my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Dare to Dream Big

I pray that you all are having Marvelous Monday! Take a moment and enjoy today's inspirational word taken from Joel and Victoria Osteen's Daily Devotional.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"…No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him"
(I Corinthians 2:9, NIV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

What are the dreams and desires that you have for your future? Maybe you had some big dreams when you were younger, but things didn’t go the way you planned and so you put them aside and settled for status quo. We’ve all had disappointments, but we have to keep moving forward. Today is a new day, and we serve a God who makes all things new.

Let me challenge you to have a big dream for your life. I always say, when one dream dies, dream another dream. Don’t just settle for mediocrity, we serve a God who is above and beyond anything we can think of. There’s nothing you can dream of that God can’t do. Ask Him to bring you the right people, the right opportunities, and the right resources. As you follow His leading in your heart, I believe you’ll move forward and see every dream and desire come to pass in Jesus’ name!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father in heaven, thank You for a new day to praise Your name. I dedicate myself to You fresh and anew. Lead me in the ways of my heart and let everything I do bring glory to You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."

Until Next Time,

Ask God For What You Want!
Bishop E. Earl Jenkins

"The reason you don't have what you want is...you don't ask God." James 4:2 TLB
Imagine walking into a restaurant on a whim and asking if your order is ready. "When did you call it in?" the server asks. "Oh I didn't," you reply, "I just thought perhaps you'd have something with my name on it." Sound ridiculous? No more so than expecting God to answer requests you haven't made - or made in faith believing. James says, "The reason you don't have what you want is...you don't ask God." Does that mean He'll automatically give you everything you ask for? No. James adds, "Even when you do ask you don't get it because...you want only what will give you pleasure" (Jas 4:3 TLB). Your motives need to be in tune with what God knows is best for you. John says, "This is the confidence...we have in Him...if we ask anything...according to His will...He...hears" (1Jn 5:14 AMP).

Lamentations 3:25 says, "The Lord is good to those who wait...expectantly for Him" (AMP). Expectant prayer demonstrates confidence in God's goodness. Instead of fretting and taking matters into your own hands, when you say, "Lord, I'm going to trust you with this, regardless of the outcome," He'll honor your faith. Paul says, "Pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks" (Ph 4:6 NCV). Do you need a job? Help overcoming a problem? Salvation for your loved ones? A deeper walk with God? Physical or emotional healing?

Jesus said, "It gives your Father great happiness to give you the [benefits of his] Kingdom" (Lk 12:32 NLT). God wants to be good to you, so tell Him the "desires of your heart" (Ps 37:4 NKJV). And thank Him that the answer will come - in His time!

Are Your Tresses Stressing?

We all have heard how stress can affect our health. There are also studies that stress may be an underlying cause for hair loss. What have you been stressing about lately? Is it really worth it? Can you control the situation that you are stressing about? What could have been done to prevent the stress that you are experiencing? I have to be honest, I do stress about certain things but not as much as I have in the past. I am learning how to detoxify my mind and body of stress. I mean, I didn’t go to a doctor to get this remedy. I had to pray and really meditate on the Word of God. Then I began to evaluate the stress that was present in my life. You have to assess the situation. You can begin by asking the questions aforementioned.

You may be wondering why your hair isn’t acting right, feeling thin, not healthy, etc. You might be buying the latest products out there. You might even have your regime down to a tee. But what’s on the inside of you can be affecting your tresses. This includes the food you consume, hormones, and stress. We have to make sure that we keep our bodies as healthy as possible on the inside so that it will radiate outwardly. Stress will cause you to eat too much of the wrong items or not eat at all. You won’t get the nutrients you need in order for your hair follicles to produce healthy strands. Stress will also cause you develop habits that are harmful to your tresses such as constantly tugging or rubbing your hair. All in all, stress effects much more than your health. It affects your hair, the people around you, as well as your self esteem. Read more about stress and hormones affecting hair loss here.

Keep Up With Your Health

I just wanted to take this time to say that we've lost an ICON and he will never be forgotten. My prayers go out to his family, loved ones, friends, and fans.

This is also a time that we should be reflecting on taking care of ourselves and knowing our health status. I urge you, if you don't already, to get your yearly exams. Know your health status. Know your family's health history and know what can affect your health. If you know that your grandparents, aunts, uncles, parents, and siblings has/had high blood pressure, diabetes, sickle cell, glaucoma, heart disease, etc you should take an extra precaution to make that known on your health records.

Take care of yourself by being active. Get moving in some type of way. Watch what you eat and drink water.

Michael and so many others that have passed on before him has had some health issues. I am sure he never thought that his heart would just stop all of a sudden. I don't know if he knew of any underlying issues that would eventually lead to cardiac arrest but it is best that we take time to indulge in knowing more about it.

What is cardiac arrest?
Cardiac arrest is the sudden, abrupt loss of heart function. The victim may or may not have diagnosed heart disease. It's also called sudden cardiac arrest or unexpected cardiac arrest. Sudden death (also called sudden cardiac death) occurs within minutes after symptoms appear.

What causes cardiac arrest?
The most common underlying reason for patients to die suddenly from cardiac arrest is coronary heart disease. Most cardiac arrests that lead to sudden death occur when the electrical impulses in the diseased heart become rapid (ventricular tachycardia) or chaotic (ventricular fibrillation) or both. This irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia) causes the heart to suddenly stop beating. Some cardiac arrests are due to extreme slowing of the heart. This is called bradycardia.

Other factors besides heart disease and heart attack can cause cardiac arrest. They include respiratory arrest, electrocution, drowning, choking and trauma. Cardiac arrest can also occur without any known cause.

Can cardiac arrest be reversed?
Brain death and permanent death start to occur in just 4 to 6 minutes after someone experiences cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest can be reversed if it's treated within a few minutes with an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat. This process is called defibrillation. A victim's chances of survival are reduced by 7 to 10 percent with every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation. Few attempts at resuscitation succeed after 10 minutes.

How many people survive cardiac arrest?
No statistics are available for the exact number of cardiac arrests that occur each year. It's estimated that more than 95 percent of cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital. In cities where defibrillation is provided within 5 to 7 minutes, the survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest is as high as 30–45 percent.

What can be done to increase the survival rate?
Early CPR and rapid defibrillation combined with early advanced care can result in high long-term survival rates for witnessed cardiac arrest. For instance, in June 1999, automated external defibrillators (AEDs) were mounted 1 minute apart in plain view at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports. In the first 10 months, 14 cardiac arrests occurred, with 12 of the 14 victims in ventricular fibrillation. Nine of the 14 victims (64 percent) were revived with an AED and had no brain damage.

If bystander CPR was initiated more consistently, if AEDs were more widely available, and if every community could achieve a 20 percent cardiac arrest survival rate, an estimated 40,000 more lives could be saved each year. Death from sudden cardiac arrest is not inevitable. If more people react quickly by calling 9-1-1 and performing CPR, more lives can be saved. -->

To Everything There Is A Season!

April 8, 2009

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God. Have you ever given your all to a person, to a place (such as church) or to a thing but was overlooked when accolades were distributed? It seemed as though the late night meetings, last minute phone calls and encouraging words were overlooked or forgotten. Have you ever sacrificed everything you owned to assist someone who was in need, but when the tables turned no one was there to help you? You gave bountifully to organizations in need, but when you were in need people forgot about you. Have you ever felt cheated by friends and family? Because of your generous heart and free spirit, you often find yourself being walked over. Are you currently recovering from the neglect and abuse of relationships? You offered your all to a person, but (s)he left you broken. Has life caused you to feel bitter? Have you become furious with everyone?

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you. In the beginning you were the person everyone called on for encouragement. You enjoyed sharing a scripture or offering prayer to those in need. It brought you great joy when people asked for your advice regarding a personal matter. As time has gone on you no longer feel valuable. The people who once contacted you have forgotten your phone number. My friend, To Everything There Is A Season! There are times when you feel appreciated by everyone; but there are also times when you feel unappreciated. The Bible declares in Ecclesiastes 3:1 - To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: During the times, in your life, when you feel unvalued, you must never allow the enemy to pollute your mind and thoughts. Allow me to ask a question. When people were calling on you for assistance, were you doing it for the glory of God or for self-glorification? To Everything There Is A Season! There are times when God will use you for the assignment and there are times when He will use someone else.

My brother, my sister, just because your name is not being called does not mean you are ineffective or worthless. If you were doing it all for God’s glory, bitterness and resentment should not consume you. The Bible declares in Colossians 3:23 - And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; To Everything There Is A Season! Beloved, there’s a season of public display and there’s a season of quiet service. Beware of the enemy’s traps. The enemy will allow you to feel untouchable and irreplaceable. You will begin to think it cannot be done unless you do it. You will begin to compare your ministry with others. None of this brings glory to the Lord. The Bible declares in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. During the times you feel overlooked, learn how to encourage yourself (1 Samuel 30:6). Prayer for Today: Father, forgive me for thinking it was all about me. It was You who selected me for this great assignment. I give You all of the glory, honor and praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Today's Inspiration: Be a Bounce-Back Person

Today's Scripture
"So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold…" (I Peter 1:6-7, NLT).

Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
We all face disappointments and setbacks. Life is full of things that try to push us down. Maybe you got bad news concerning your health. A relationship didn't work out. Maybe you lost your job. It was a setback. When we face setbacks, it's easy to get discouraged or lose our enthusiasm. Too often we are tempted to just settle where we are. But if we're going to see God's best, we have to have a bounce-back mentality. That means when you get knocked down, you don't stay down. You get back up again. It means when disappointments come, you shake them off knowing that what the enemy meant for your harm God is going to turn around and use for your good.

When you're a bounce-back person, you know that adversity is not permanent. Weeping may endure for a night, but you know joy is coming in the morning. There is wonderful joy ahead on the other side of this trial. Keep standing, keep believing, and choose to be a bounce-back person because you are coming out better off than you were before! You are rising higher, and you will fulfill the destiny God has in store for you!

A Prayer for Today
Father in heaven, I choose to set my focus on You. I know that You are turning things around in my favor. I choose to stand and believe Your promises. Thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
